The Light Was Us

Acrylic on corrugated cardboard
33.7 x 32.4 x 6.4 cm box, filled with nine acrylic on corrugated cardboard pieces, various dimensions.

January 2021

Inspired by the poem, "The Hill We Climb," written by the National Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman, and later read by her at the Biden Presidential Inauguration. Historian Heather Cox Richardson, referring to the poem wrote, "that light was us."

In this installation, nine multi-shaped, multi-colored objects nest in a box. When emptied, the box sits closed on a chair, and the pieces hang on a wall above the chair.

The Light Was Us, along with Changing Stripes, showed at the 2021 Biennale internationale d'art nonobjectif in Grenoble, France.
Curator: Roland Orepük.
